Notes: You don't have to look far to find an excellent notes app for OS X. Evernote for Mac is a world-class note-taking service, for example, and OneNote from Microsoft does a solid job of helping you take, organize, and access your notes across multiple platforms. The revamped Notes app in El Capitan makes a compelling case to join that short list. You can now drag files such as PDFs and videos into a note and save content -- such as a website or a map -- from other apps through the Share menu.
And the Notes app works with iCloud, so your notes are automatically synced across your Apple devices. Aperture was locked in a struggle with Adobe's Lightroom in the professional photography space, and iPhoto had been neglected for years.
And then Apple said it was retiring both and introducing a new image-management app named Photos. While Photos so far is not a replacement for Aperture, it is a step up from iPhoto. And Photos is solidly part Apple's holistic vision of having access to your content from anywhere, via iCloud's Photo Library.
The Photos app groups your images by time and location and allows you to use albums to organize photos in your own way. Photos also comes with a useful collection of editing tools, including the ability to apply filters and retouch blemishes in an image. You can also sort albums by date and title. Safari monitors pinned sites, so when you open one from the tab bar, Safari displays its current state. You can also mute audio from a noisy tab with a mute button in the search field.
Click the icon to silence the tab. Maps: Apple's continued work on Maps makes it more and more an essential application. To use the Transit view, click the Transit button, set your starting and ending locations and your route. Besides entering an address, you can enter a business or location name, as for a local park. You can also set when you want to head out. Click a public transit station to see a place card displaying information about the hub.
You can send directions to your iPhone and see directions on your Apple Watch if it's paired with your iPhone. Apple says it intends to gradually roll out the authentication service to eligible users, so you may not be able to participate right away.
Users found the former two-step verification service confusing, and Apple hopes to simplify its security services with the update. For a complete list, see our story on getting ready for El Capitan. But Apple has a solitary view of the cloud, with sharing largely centered on photos and videos for family and friends. If you want to share files and collaborate with others, Google, Microsoft, and even Dropbox offer more useful ways of working in real time with others.
Public transit: The mass transit information in Maps is great if you live in one of the covered areas. But until Maps extends its range of regions, it's of limited use. Incorporating iOS features such as improved gesture support in Mail , a reworked Notes app, better window management, a wide-ranging search tool, much improved Photos app, and other refinements, El Capitan is a solid OS update that is well worth moving to.

Works on Big Sur, you just have to launch it from the screensaver folder then allow it to be ran in the security settings.
I nearly wept when I got this to work on my laptop and external monitor; I can't believe how long it's been since I had the first version of After Dark! The best dose of nostalgia I've had in a while! For the first time in 20 years, I have flying toasters on my computer! My, how times have changed Great stuff!!! The screen saver is very nice. I wished there would be all the other afterdeck modules incl. My only problem in Mac Catalina is that every once in a while the system pops up and requests to move the screensaver to the Trash Bin since from an unidentified developer.
Although I go to the privacy settings preferences to allow opening the screensaver, it happens over and over again. Its a bit disturbing. Any one has the same issues and maybe a solution to this problem? Works great for me on my MBP running Great screensaver.
No settings, alas. But it's free and works on Catalina! I like the retro stuff. This a feel-good screensaver. I wish operating systems had more character like they did in the good old days.
Nowadays everything is so sterile and there's no way at all to add personal touches to your environment. But this screensaver really helps bring back the memories of better OS days.
Very, very well done. Installed and worked no problems. I think they are a great piece of art and they are very much missed, I flourished with them growing up with Windows 3. Not optimized for 4k screen. The instants of the toasters disappear before they are out of the screen, and none of them reaches the bottom left of the screen. Sadly does not work on multiple monitors, and doesn't even make the second monitor black, wanted to like this, but that's unfortunate Very nice.
It reminds on former times working with Windows XP. Now I have installed the screensaver to Windows 10 Pro x64 Version To activate goto settings-personalization-lockscreen, scroll to last entry: settings screensaver. Still have the original CD and run it on my XP machine. Shortly updating my machine and hope I can get it to run on Windows I like the falling bouncing balls Marbles the best.
Great thing, finally! Suggestions for a new version: user can use a configuration menue to define - background image and foreground image that reflects on toasters - light brightness and adjust color affects flying items only - light location affects flying items only.
Pretty good. In fact I love it! Except - no sound. I miss the Flying Toasters anthem Flying out of the sun The smell of toast is in the air When there's a job to be done The Flying Toasters will be there! Have a question or problem? Please post it on our message board no registration. Free 0. Message board Is your question not listed? Right-click the screensaver file where you copied it and select "Install". If OS X complains the program can't be opened because it is "from an unidentified publisher," right-click the screensaver file and select "Open", then click "Open" again.
